Next week, we will be working on the second week of our OWL Unit 5 Shadows & Reflections. Looking at floating object's reflections (SAND & WATER): Line reflective material (tinfoil, mylar) in sink, tub, bucket, water table and use floating objects to look for reflections! Observes and explores materials, objects, or events in the environment. Uses language to discuss, record, or describe observations. Cloud paintings (ART EASEL): Use blue construction paper and white paint or white paper with blue and white paint to create cloud paintings. Examine clouds outside before painting, ask children what the see in the clouds then write about it! (Based on the book It Looks Like Spilled Milk) Explores and experiments with wet media to create two-dimensional artwork. Explores and experiments with basic shapes and lines in artwork. Creates artwork in relation to the book, The Puddle Pail. Exploring glittery finger paint (ART): Use shimmer finger paint or add glitter to paint after. We usually cut out flowers with white paper for a spring craft. Creates original artwork to express thoughts, feelings, and energy. Explores and experiments with how color can convey mood and emotion. Builds finger dexterity. Reflective blocks (BLOCKS): Wrap blocks in tin foil and build with them, look for reflections! Students love to help wrap and unwrap the blocks, great fine motor skills! Explores reflective surfaces and their properties. Interacts with others appropriately by cooperating, helping, and sharing. Explores spatial relationships. Next week, we will be taking a break from OWL to celebrate Easter! See below for our Easter centers! Easter Egg Stamping (ART): Use plastic easter egg halves to dip in spring colored paint and stamp! We usually cut a bunny out of white paper and stamp the bunny. Magnetic Easter Eggs (SCIENCE): Fill easter eggs with paper clips and use magnetic wands to experiment with magnetism! Easter Egg Sand Molds (SENSORY): Use plastic easter eggs to make egg molds with kinetic sand. Making Easter Baskets (ART): Make your own easter basket out of a paper bag! Have your own nature Easter egg hunt and collect things outside that are egg shaped. Playdoh & Spring Cookie Cutters (FINE MOTOR): Use Spring or Easter cookie cutters with play-doh! Digging for Hidden Treasure (SENSORY TABLE): Uses a variety of tools and materials to strengthen hand grasp, flexibility, and coordination. Makes comparisons among objects. Sorts objects into subgroups that vary by one or two attributes, or by category. Pattern Blocks & Design Cards (MATH): Performs fine motor tasks that require small muscle strength and control. Uses eye hand coordination to perform fine motor tasks. Builds finger dexterity and uses thumb/forefinger in pincer grasp. Scooping Ice Cream (DRAMATIC PLAY): Participates in dramatic play. Locates objects in a familiar environment. Uses language while participating in dramatic play. Still Life Paintings (ART): Creates two-dimensional artwork. Explores and experiments with wet media to create artwork. Asks and answers questions and gives directions.
